Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) – Inspection of Public Records Procedures information:
The Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140/1 et seq., is the Illinois statute governing the inspection of public records. This act provides for public inspection of records in the possession of the Niles Township Government.
All requests for non-exempt information must be responded to within five(5) working days after the receipt of the written request, unless additional time is required, as allowed by the Act. The requester must be notified by mail, email or phone in five (5) days if an extension is required. Requests for a commercial purpose will be responded to within twenty-one (21) working days. You must disclose whether your request is for a commercial purpose. It is a violation of the Freedom of Information Act for a person to knowingly obtain a public record for a commercial purpose without disclosing that it is for a commercial purpose, if requested to do so by the public body. 5 ILCS 140.3.1(c)).
The Deputy Assessor, Julie Oh, is Niles Township Assessor’s FOIA Officer and will fulfill any Niles Township Assessor’s requests made by groups or individual residents. Please note that many questions may be easily answered through Niles Township Assessor’s website. Please email all requests to the Deputy Assessor/F.O.I.A Officer.
